Make it Regular

Thank you for your interest in the challenge. We've already filled all our volunteer spaces for this challenge but please take a look at our other challenges.

Hat Heritage researcher

What's involved?

We would like a Museum Maker to work with us to gather information from the public on 47 Guildford Street, a former hat factory.

47 Guildford Street was an old hat factory and as part of the Hat District programme, the building is being refurbished. To help us understand the heritage of the building, we wish to find out more about the building’s use as a hat factory and in particular hear stories from the people who worked or are associated with it.

The challenge will be for a Museum Maker to undertake research using primarily social media to engage and interact and find out stories of the people who worked there from the 1930s.  (Manufacturing companies include: C H Young & Co, Maurice Simons, Bridgewater Millinery Co and Maurice Davis)

Full training and briefing will be given.

We are looking for a Museum Maker who is a confident user of IT, particularly social media and communicator.

This is a regular time commitment and we expect the Museum Maker to be able to commit one day a week until July 2018.

Why get involved?

This is a really exciting opportunity to use your research and communication skills to find out more information about this important time in Luton's thriving hat industry.
