Focus on Fashion

As Coco Chanel once declared, “Fashion passes, style remains” and that is certainly true of some of the exquisite costume we are getting out of the stores and ready for display for our upcoming exhibition Focus on Fashion, opening 12th April 2019.
At our new off-site store a small team of Museum Makers have been busy armed with mannequins, needle and threads and a lot of patience, working to create what will be a visually stunning exhibition for Stockwood Discovery Centre.

Our costume collection is a small but mighty collection, giving us a great insight into the depth of design and styles and changes to fashion throughout the ages.
Focus on Fashion will showcase ladies costume spanning a period of just over 250 years. Pulling together an exhibition can be a lengthy process – some are years in the planning but we have an extraordinary team of Museum Makers working on this exhibition from selecting the objects to go on display, preparing the costume, to researching and writing the interpretation. The finished result is going to be magnificent, complete with a catwalk!

Much of the costume that will be in the exhibition, has never previously been on display, so this will be a great opportunity to see up close some beautiful pieces and to marvel at  just how small waist sizes were!

Whether you’re a follower of fashion or simply want a joyous couple of hours looking at beautiful garments, then a visit to Focus on Fashion when it opens is a must.

Focus on Fashion opens 12th April, at Stockwood Discovery Centre. Open daily, free entry.
